Yacht Marine is a large marina built on the inside of a spit in the bay of Marmaris. It has expanded rapidly over recent years and now has a substantial number of boats on the hard and afloat along with a significant liveaboard population. The liveaboard community (and it is a community) is sizable, especially over the winter months (approximately from November to March) with all the things that that entails, some fantastic, some not! The marina has gained a reputation for being the place to over-winter if you have liveaboard children amongst your crew and the marina tries to cater for the young sailor. There is a kids club which sometimes doubles as a schoolroom and children are generally made welcome.

The marina is quite a distance from the main town of Marmaris which some may consider a problem, others a bonus.

Yacht Marine is a good place to for maintenance and repairs, and prices in the marina may seem cheap compared to EU norms, but even better deals can often be found by haggling in town.
Location

If you would like to visit this location using Google Earth, click here. Note: you will need Google Earth installed on your computer (preferably the latest version). If you haven’t got Google Earth, you can install it from Google Earth.
The marina is located approximately 3nm south of the town of Marmaris, tucked into the north side of a natural causeway. Its location within the bay is extremely sheltered and offers all year round sailing within the bay itself.

Although some way out of town, the marina is well serviced by local buses and an on-site taxi service. Getting a bus into town will cost less than a euro (as at Nov 2007) and take about 20 minutes. The marina also provides a free ferry service twice daily.

Approach & Mooring Information

Accessibility

Marmaris bay is a deep, almost land-locked body of water. Some of the largest cruise liners in the world use the bay and the dock near Netsel Marina. Once inside the bay, shelter is generally excellent although the prevailing northerlies and the occasional southerly in winter can cause a bit of a surge.

The marina has berths to accommodate all but the very largest super yachts

Mooring assistance

The marina uses vhf channel 72 (call sign Yacht Marina). On approach you will almost certainly be met by marina staff in a rib who will direct you to a berth and will help “nudge” you in to place if necessary (and sometimes even if not!).

Moorings

All the moorings in Yacht Marine are on floating pontoons.

Mooring is stern or bow-to with a line tailed to the pontoon.

Some larger vessels and catamarans may be asked to go alongside the quay rather than using the pontoons

Some of the pontoons are quite close together and manouvering space can be very tight. This also means that some of the lazy lines are quite steep into the water and don’t pull you off the pontoon as well as you might like.

The marina staff are excellent at periodically checking the state of all the boats and are out and about whenever the weather makes things difficult
